Nana's Fudge Cake
For as long as I can remember, my Nana has been making this legendary chocolate cake. It is a favorite of everyone in our family, especially the boys. If you want to make your husband happy, this is the treat to bake. It isn't the prettiest cake in the whole world, y'all. We are from Texas after all, where things are bigger and better, not bigger and prettier. But once you get past the holes in the top you will understand that they are ingenius. They allow the rich, gooey frosting to seep through the entire cake, leaving it incredibly moist and fudgey. Oh, you will love it. If it came from Nana's kitchen, it's good...promise.
How to Make it:
Use any kind of yellow cake mix (except Duncan Hines). Prepare cake batter as directed on box, stirring in 1/2 pkg. chocolate chips. Bake until cake springs back when touched with finger and lightly brown. Try not to overcook. Punch holes in cake with fork or ice pick.
While your cake is baking....
mix in sauce pan:
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp. karo (white syrup)
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Bring to boil stirring constantly for 3 minutes. Let cool....beat while cooling. Add 1 1/2 to 2 cups powdered sugar. Pour over cake while cake is still hot.
