colors, Valentine's style

skirt | bag | belt | necklace | sweater | heels // on Bear: shirt | bow tie | shoes | joggers

Last week, I had the honor of working with personal stylist, Natalie Weekly. We dealt mostly with styling the Pantone colors of the year, rose quartz & serenity. Rose quartz is the color of my bag pictured above and serenity is a light shade of blue, similar to periwinkle. If you look closely over the next 12 months, you'll notice these colors implemented into all facets of design from home decor to children's clothing. I'm not mad about it because I happen to love both colors. :)

So first, let's talk Bear's outfit. His shirt is on sale from Old  Navy and comes with the cutest gray tie but we swapped it for this pink one so he could match Mommy. Because of his size (hims a big boy!) he pretty much lives in joggers right now, and these are some of our favorites. I mean, who doesn't wanna live in elastic-waist pants? I know I do. That was quite possibly the best part about being pregnant.

Natalie and I both picked up this necklace from J.Crew and were instantly in love; we got it on major sale, too! It isn't online but in store it was regular $130, on sale for $36. My midi-skirt is from Old Navy; it's really comfy and I love that it's a classic piece and pairs well with so many things. What you may be wondering is why I decided to dress head to toe in one color (different shades). This is the new thing, y'all! Or at least it's new for me. I was always afraid to "clash" my clothing or be too matchy-matchy. Wearing different shades of one color can actually work really well when done correctly. A few tips:
1. The monochromatic look helps you look leaner and taller by creating a streamlined silhouette. Pick a color you feel comfortable in and don't be afraid to be too matchy-matchy; monochromatic always looks sharp and sophisticated.

2. Wearing multiple layers of varied textures of one color add depth and dimension to an outfit, while also allowing you to highlight, or downplay, certain parts of your body. For example, if you have long legs and tend to carry your weight above the waist, consider white skinny jeans with a white blouse and white-to-cream faux fur vest or draped sweater; you’ll draw attention to a lean lower body. Or to bring the focus upward or toward your face, try wearing bottoms with a slightly darker shade and work your way up with lighter, brighter variations of that color family.

3. Go easy on the accessories. Think one piece, like a statement necklace or bold shoe. You want to keep the look fresh, chic, and simple.

If you've made it this far, you are a champion. Even I'm yawning and this stuff is my jam! Perhaps my exhaustion stems from the fact that Zach, Bear, and I marathon-shopped today. When you mix great sales with a toddler that loves to hide in clothing racks, the struggle is real. Totally worth it, but real.
Hope you've had a fabulous weekend!
