life's a beach
Lilly Pulitzer dress | shoes | bag | earrings
The new Lilly Pulitzer store is open in Houston and I had the opportunity of visiting it last week to pick out this fun, colorful dress! The boutique is a color-lover's dream; it's like Jimmy Buffett had a baby with Katy Perry and created the world's brightest, beachiest storefront. I don't even know if that makes sense but hopefully you get the drift- it's the perfect place to visit if you're headed for a tropical getaway or simply live in Houston where it's hot as fire eleven months out of the year. Yes, I wore this dress in November and yes, I was still sweating. But hey, I'll take any excuse to wear all the hot pink and purple. I also pigged out at Olive Garden right before these pictures and this dress is great for hiding a breadstick baby.
When I went into the Lilly store to pick out an outfit for the Lilly Paints Houston Party at Hotel ZaZa last Wednesday, the girl who helped me filled me in on Lilly Pultizer's life and I was blown away. Did you know that Lilly was a real person? Cause I didn't. She and her husband had a fruit stand in Florida and she was always spilling juice on her dresses, so she created a colorfully patterned shift dress to hide stains. Genius, right? Gimme all the bold print dresses to hide my coffee stains, please. Local women fell in love and once Lilly's former classmate, Jacqueline Kennedy, was photographed on the cover of TIME Magazine wearing a Lilly dress, the brand took off like wildfire. You can read more of Lilly Pulitzer's life story on the website here if you're weirdly interested in fashion history like me.
Bear and I saw Trolls with friends this afternoon and it was so cute! The little guys stayed interested through the entire movie and I went in thinking I'd take a nap but ended up laughing and singing along through the whole thing. It was definitely a "feel good" movie and I'd recommend it for kids of all ages (I enjoyed it even more than Finding Dory!). Anyway, I'm no movie critic I just like Justin Timberlake and trolls with hot pink hair. What can I say? It's the 90's child in me.
