3 winter staples
jeans | vest | top | booties | bag | spike bracelet | scarf
Let's be honest, we don't have a lot of winter weather here in Houston. And by that I mean we really have none. I can't remember the last time, if ever, I actually wore a coat in this part of the world. If you live somewhere that it actually gets cold (lucky you!), warmer accessories are definitely a must. I almost bought some faux fur gloves the other day before laughing at myself and remembering that we barely get to wear sweaters in Houston- gloves are not exactly necessary in 70 degree weather. Despite our coastal climate, there are still pieces that are great for light layering and are must-haves no matter how mild or severe your winters may be.
1. the blanket scarf- Not to be mistaken for a regular scarf, the blanket scarf is a magical piece. When else is it acceptable to walk around in public wrapped up in a blanket? I am cold-natured and always freeze in restaurants, so I love cozying up in one of these bad boys.
Some of my favs:
2. a warm vest- I prefer faux fur, but I realize this is not to everyones' liking. As long as the vest is warm, comfortable, and a great fit (not too big or too small), it's a yes. This is also a piece that never goes out of style, so it's worth the investment to spend a little more for better quality that will last.
Some of my favs that I own/want to own:
3. booties- If you've been holding off on the bootie trend, it's time to give in and jump on the train. You won't be sorry! Booties are super comfortable, easy to wear, and functional. I have them in all styles/colors but the pair I'm wearing above are by far my favorite because they go with everything. Peep-toe booties are also really popular right now, but I recommend a closed-toe pair for winter.
Some of my favorites:
Zach and I took Bear to the Johnson Space Center (NASA) today and had the most amazing time! I can't believe I've lived in Houston for 6 years and had never been there. Bear says he wants to be an astronaut when he grows up so he was especially in heaven. The coolest part was getting to be inside the Apollo Mission Control room- the very room that was in communication with Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin when we first landed on the moon. Everything is still exactly the same as it was in 1969- it felt like we were stepping back in time. It was such a fun and special day that I never want to forget.
Hope your week is off to a great start!
