Have any of you been to see Bad Moms yet? First of all, that movie is freaking hilarious. I went with a big group of playgroup friends last Friday and I'm pretty sure we all peed our pants at least a little during that film. Or maybe that was just me. Regardless, it was funny. Aside from the obvious hilarity, I took a couple of valuable lessons away that night, too.
One is that as moms, we have got to slow down. Being a mom, wife, businesswoman, volunteer, etc. etc. means juggling tons of things all the time. We wear a lot of hats and sometimes, something's gotta give. And that's okay. If you miss a meeting or decide to sleep in past 7am one day out of the month, the world will not end. Life goes on and it's important to remember that we're all human.
In one scene of the movie, the three main characters are going through Mila Kunis' closet looking for something she can wear "out" that night. The other two women are shocked to find that Mila has nothing to go out in; her clothes are either "mom clothes" or "work clothes". The scene is hysterical, but the reality of the situation for so many moms is actually quite sad. My own closet would totally be this way if my day job were teaching as originally planned rather than fashion blogging. I get to buy and wear fun things like the outfit in this post, but the truth is that all too often, my going-out clothing falls by the wayside. I'm usually in yoga pants chasing Bear around, or I'll put on something comfy and casual for an afternoon out with friends. I'm making it a point to start having more date nights with Zach, for two reasons. A- quality time with my main squeeze, and B- getting to wear going-out clothes. Win win.
I think it's important that as women, we dress up and feel sexy from time to time. Ditch those yoga pants and put on some stilettos, you hot mama! Even if you're just going for a family dinner at Chili's, show the world, and most importantly yourself, that you still got it.
