diy valentine's day place cards
Several weeks ago, I attended a Galentine's Day dinner with some of my best blogger babes at Sonoma Wine Bar in The Heights. My friend Shelbi put the whole thing together and I told her I couldn't contribute much to the planning since she had everything under control, but I was happy to make some simple place cards for all the girls. There's something about a small, personalized touch that makes an event that much more special.
I knew I wanted to keep the place cards simple and chic; I have a tendency to go overboard on things and it doesn't typically turn out for the best. I have to constantly remind myself that less is more! I think it's the Texan in me- everything truly is bigger down here from the hair to the plates of Tex Mex. But for these place cards, I opted for a basic, clean look and all of the girls loved them (or at least were sweet and said they did)!
To make these place cards, you'll need:
-card stock
-a calligraphy pen (I love these)
-hot glue gun
-scissors
-paper flowers/stickers/etc for decoration
Directions on this project are difficult to explain, as they're pretty self explanatory and I didn't get the best pictures, but I'll sure try!
Start by folding a sheet of card stock in half down the middle, lengthwise, to create a cutting line. Cut along the line.
Once your paper is in two even pieces, cut each piece into three sections. Fold each section in half horizontally to create the place card.
Keep repeating this process until you have as many place cards as you need. I needed a total of eight, so I used two sheets of paper.
Flatten each piece out to where you can still see the crease to center your lettering, and write each person's name in the center of a place card. For easy DIY three step calligraphy, you can find my tutorial here (anyone can do it, I promise!).
Once you have a name written on each card, glue on a little added flair like paper flowers, glitter, etc. I found both the flowers and gold heart stickers I used at Michael's; they always have a great selection of, well, everything.
That's all there is to it! Just as easy as it looks. :)
Anytime we host a dinner party, however informal it may be, I always try and have place cards to make guests feel special. Even if we're serving them from a Chick Fil A nugget tray, personal touches go a long way! And actually, I prefer a good CFA tray. Every time we go to a party, I secretly hope they're gonna have one.

I've been in this funk lately where I haven't felt like crafting much of anything, so it was nice to bust out the art supplies and make a little something. Not sure why I haven't felt the creative juices flowing in the DIY department, but hopefully I'll get back to it soon. Have you ever been turned off to something you once spent countless hours doing? It's not that I don't want to craft, I just haven't been craving it like I have in the past. Zach, Bear, and I went to Hobby Lobby over the weekend and it was the first time I've been in there in probably six months or more- that's a record for me! For several years there, when Logs 'n Lace was in full swing, I would be at Hobby Lobby 4-5 times a week. I still shop, don't you worry, just in different places. There will always be shopping!
