how i met the hubs

I couldn't decide which piece to accessorize this outfit with-the scarf or the necklace- so I went with both! It's typically too warm to wear scarves in Houston but on the rare occasion that we get a semi-cold day, I love to bust out a cozy blanket scarf. I also love adding a pop of leopard print with my favorite color, pink! Bear thinks blanket scarves are for picnics only because I've used plaid ones as picnic blankets a few times, so he's been known to embarrass me in public when I'm wearing one. We were in the check-out line at Target the day these photos were taken and he goes, "Mommy, take that picnic blanket off of your neck". Thanks, son, for making all five people in line think that I raided the pantry for my outfit.

So, the reason for this post! Most of our friends and family know how Zach and I met, but I thought it'd be fun to tell those of you who don't know us personally. It's not that great of a story or anything, but I love knowing things like that about people (#nosey) so I thought you might, too! Zach and I grew up in small towns 8 miles apart and both lived there until we were 18 without ever meeting. Zach's 4 years older than me, so when I was a freshman in high school he had just graduated. I did know his little brother, Cole, who was my age and dated one of my good friends. Fast-forward a few years and Cole happened to marry that friend, Amanda. I was at the wedding, which Zach was of course in, and still didn't have a clue who he was. Fast-forward a couple more years to October of 2009 when Amanda texted me to come to Louie Louie's Piano Bar in Lubbock one night. We all went to college in Lubbock, so it wasn't out of the ordinary to meet up and hang out. Zach was in town with his brother and sister-in-law for the Texas A&M vs Texas Tech football game, and Cole & Amanda introduced the two of us as I got to the piano bar. It wasn't a set-up at all; I don't think they had any clue we'd hit it off. But they definitely get all the credit! Our friends Garrett & Whitney were there that night, too (and maybe it was Whitney that texted me to come out? I can't remember! She gets credit, too!). Zach and I both laugh now that we met in a bar (though I don't consider piano bars legit 'bars') instead of at church like our parents always advised us.

I was attracted to Zach and his sweet nature right away, and we talked a little in Louie Louie's before calling it a night. Zach, Cole, and Amanda were headed to Whataburger and asked me if I wanted to go, to which I replied, "Oh I had that last night!" and Zach said "Okay" and walked away. I meant that I love it enough to go regularly, but he took my response to mean that I'd just had Whataburger and didn't want it again. Typical male/female miscommunication. He now says that he thought I was shooting him down, which is so sad! I wasn't, because I stalked him on Facebook as soon as I got home and did the one thing single women are not supposed to do- befriended him and sent him a message within hours of meeting the guy. He responded, we talked back and forth for a few weeks, and he flew me to Houston for an A&M game just three weeks after meeting. The rest is history! So really, being a stalker paid off. :) I got the guy! And he's pretty amazing.
