When I saw this stunning four piece Bellarri set at Shannon Fine Jewelry in The Woodlands, I was instantly in love. Of course one wouldn't need the entire set- each piece is a statement in and of itself. Of all the breathtaking jewels sparkling in the cases at Shannon's, I'm not sure what drew me most to these four Bellarri pieces. It could've been the blush mother of pearl petals, or the deep purple amethyst center stone (which also happens to be the birthstone of our baby on the way!). It could've been all the glittery diamonds, carefully placed all around each flower like radiant drops of morning dew. Yes, I fell hard for all of the above. But the literal "icing" on the cake was that each piece is centered on the most beautiful rose gold band/chain. In a world where so many think they have to choose only between "gold or silver", rose gold has made an impressive name for itself that only continues to grow.
If you're wondering where the term "rose gold" comes from, it's because the metal has a pinkish tint, giving it a less harsh appearance than some metals. Rose gold is a mix of pure gold and copper. It is sometimes referred to as “pink” or “red” gold as well. This sweet-looking metal was first worn in 19th century Russia, earning the moniker “Russian Gold.” Although the names are often used interchangeably, the difference between red, rose, and pink gold is the copper content: the higher the copper content, the stronger the red coloration.
As a stylist, I often recommend clients opt for rose gold pieces because they compliment every skin tone. As a setting for stones, rose gold works best with diamonds and earth tone-colored gemstones in shades of yellow, brown, orange, and red. The rich colors in rose gold complement aquamarine, blue topaz, citrine, green amethyst, opal, pearl, and tanzanite especially well. Rose gold watches have become very popular in recent years, mostly due to the metal's ability to mix well with other metals. I'll sometimes have clients ask if they have to stick to wearing all silver or all gold jewelry with an outfit; what's great about rose gold is it can easily be mixed with any other metal. I think that's so important when choosing investment pieces like the ones I'm wearing above because you want something you'll wear time and time again, and that's easy to do when the piece matches everything.
When I wear rose gold, I feel most feminine and romantic. That's probably because while white gold symbolizes friendship and yellow gold symbolizes fidelity, the meaning behind rose gold is that of love. No matter what piece you are purchasing, love and good intentions will be behind the meaning of the jewelry’s look and composition. I want to pass my fine jewelry down to our children and grandchildren, and what better meaning to spread than that of love?
