NYFW day one

Day one of NYFW was a whirlwind but in a good way! It was probably my least busy day of the five I was there, which turned out to be a good thing because there was some stress leading up to it. I had booked my flights 2-3 months in advance with Spirit Airlines and the evening before my flight was supposed to leave (13 hours before, in fact), I received an email that the flight to Newark had been cancelled. No reason, just cancelled. After an hour and a half on hold I was finally able to speak with someone at Spirit who refunded my money, but I still had to find another flight to New York that would leave in mere hours because I had meetings starting at 1pm the next day. I ended up spending about $400 more than I would have if I'd just booked with another airline originally, but I was so thankful to have a flight at all that I didn't think much about it. I definitely did not have a pleasant experience with Spirit and ended up hearing tons of other nightmare stories from friends with similar past situations with the airline. I flew Delta to New York and they were so accommodating- they even waved all of our bag fees on the flight there because of Harvey. So nice! Anyway, long story but I just had to share because it was a crazy evening prior to heading to NY!
I woke up bright and early Friday morning (3am) to head to the airport to catch my 6am flight. I landed at LaGuardia at 11am but waited about an hour and a half for one of my friends and ended up missing my first meeting with Now+Zen. Luckily Chevy, the contact I have there, was so sweet when I told her I wasn't going to be able to make it that she sent me an Uber credit to try and come later that day. And I did! Kelly and I headed straight for our hotel where we quickly freshened up and met our other two roomies, Kylee and Shelbi, at Baublebar Headquarters. We are all big Baublebar fans (who isn't?!) and the showroom is amazing (we got to visit last year, too!), so we had fun trying on all the new fall pieces and enjoying some yummy snacks + drinks. We also got to take home some goodies and I'm sure you could guess I picked earrings. No secret I love a good statement earring! From there, I hopped in an Uber and headed to the Bollare showroom while the girls went to have lunch (I grabbed a street hot dog, my fav!). Bollare is a PR company that works with tons of really great brands like Spiritual Gangster, Wrangler, and Vans. Their showroom was incredible- it was any fashion lover's dream! Basically bloggers are invited to "shop" the showroom, or "gifting suite" as they're also called, and pick out anything they want to take home. I left with lots of goodies and you'll see some of them on here soon! I was supposed to attend three runway shows and a presentation this day but sadly didn't make any of them (Galtiscopio, Katie Gallagher, Vaishali S, & Cindy Monteiro). I've found after three years of NYFW that PR meetings and showroom appointments are really more beneficial to my blog and brand in the long run than attending shows. I LOVE shows (I love all of it!), but I explained more about how it all works in my last post here and will talk more about shows, appointments, etc. in the next few posts, too.
From Bollare, I grabbed another Uber and headed to the Now+Zen showroom with 2(X)IST. The girls at Now+Zen are my favorite and the showroom had all kinds of tasty treats and masseuses set up giving massages. I left with several cute new sets of athleisure wear, one of which I wore today. Hey, we ate lunch at Cracker Barrel so I needed stretchy pants. From Now+Zen, I grabbed yet another Uber and met up with all my Houston babes at the Roof at Park South. My friend Dawn was staying there and had set up the neatest happy hour for us on the rooftop- it was such a special night with all my ladies! Our Houston Photographer, Yash, made the trip to NY to take our pictures for the week and he snapped the photos in this post outside during the happy hour. This outfit was perfect for travel- I always love having a lightweight jacket because I get cold on the plane and use it as a blanket. After catching up with all the girls (there were close to 20 of us total), our group of four "roomies" headed to Butter for a delicious dinner to end the night. I got the mac 'n cheese gnocchi and it was so good- I wanted to take a bath in the sauce. Out of this world.
In a post dinner food coma, we headed back to our hotel to shower and head to bed for a very early morning wake-up call. On my flight to New York, as epic timing would have it, my throat started feeling really sore and I ended up having an awful cold the entire trip. I would wake up in the middle of the night unable to go back to sleep because my throat hurt too badly to swallow. My morning sickness gave me a break during the trip, thank goodness (it's now back with a vengeance), but the cold wasn't gonna cut me any slack. Luckily we were so busy that I fought through it and am almost over the dumb thing now. Does anyone else get the worst summer colds? This was my first one this year but it's been brutal! It doesn't help being pregnant and not being able to take much medicine. Anyway, enough complaining. Sickness aside, it was the absolute BEST trip and I can't wait to keep recapping it for you all! Days two-five were full of even more fun.
Hope you had a great weekend!
