Mom Goals for the New Year
A few posts ago, I listed out my goals for the New Year and talked about why I prefer the term “goal” over “resolution”. I talked about goals I’ve set for myself personally like wanting to cook more and travel more. But one thing I didn’t really discuss, and certainly most important of all, is what my goals are for 2019 as a Mom (technically “Mommy”, a title I’m holding on to for as long as I can!). I have learned over time to just go with the flow when it comes to parenting, and that a lot of goals and expectations I set for myself can be too lofty and only result in the highly dreaded “mom guilt”. Maybe it’s having a second child now, but while I still make my fair share of mistakes (and then some), I see things a bit more clearly. I don’t sweat the small stuff, but I realize the bigger things, things I can control, matter more. With that in mind, I set a list of 3 main goals I hope to accomplish this year when it comes to Mommin’ my boys.
1. Be gentle and patient. I’m pretty laid-back for the most part when it comes to parenting, but I definitely have moments when I lose my temper and later regret it. I want to always be patient with Bear and Boone and remember that the way I react to situations greatly impacts them and their behavior. They deserve my very best, and I want to give it to them.
2. Only buy products we know and trust. I wouldn’t use a cleanser on my face that was made with unsafe or harmful ingredients, so why would I dare put something like that on my child? Thanks to the Pampers Pure Collection found at Target, I don’t have to compromise comfort or quality for Boone while still staying within our monthly diaper/wipe budget. I love that the Pampers Pure Protection diapers are free of fragrance, chlorine bleach, parabens, natural rubber latex, and the 26 allergens identified by the European Union. And the Pampers Pure wipes are just as good- we use them on both Bear and Boone daily. No more skin irritations from buying natural products that just weren’t cutting it- only safe and durable products that we trust. A win/win that we can pick Pampers Pure up on our Target runs!
3. Unplug more often. As a blogger, I’m constantly on my phone since work and the internet never stop. But unfortunately, Bear and Boone pick up on this and it hits me all too often that I’m staring at my phone or computer screen when I should be playing with my boys. We have a rule that at suppertime, no electronics are allowed at the table. Bear doesn’t use an iPad anymore but will ask for our phones, likely because he sees Zach and me on them all the time. I want to be a better example and unplug more often, sometimes even taking an entire weekend away from my laptop and social media. This is not only good for my boys, but good for my head as well.
I know I will continue to make mistakes as a mother and not always live up to these goals, but I want to try my best for Bear and Boone. I know I can master #2, which makes me feel better already. Have you tried Pampers Pure Collection yet? I promise you won’t regret it!
xo, Britt
