5 ways to transition your wardrobe into fall

Pumpkin Spice Lattes are officially back at Starbucks as of this week and all of us basic you-know-whats are ready to bust out our Flannel-scented 3 wick candles from Bath & Body Works. While this weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, fall doesn’t officially start until September 22nd. And the weather certainly agrees with that late date, since it’s still 820804750 degrees in Houston. While we all want to drape tablecloth-sized plaid blanket scarves around our necks paired with our favorite camel colored OTK boots, it just isn’t practical. But there are a few ways we can start to make our outfits match our coffee orders without having a heat stroke. And they are…

1. Moto jacket- This item can be a bit of a splurge, but once you find one that you love (it’s THIS one for me), you’ll be glad you made the purchase. And you’ll wear the crap out of that jacket for years to come. I’m actually wearing a romper in this post that looks like a dress, but either a dress or romper can easily be made more “fallish” by throwing on a moto jacket. This also makes the look go easily from day to night wear.
2. Fabric- Swap out the linens and eyelet lace for richer fabrics like suede, corduroy, and knit. I love to wear sleeveless knit sweater tanks like THIS one as we move into fall. And yes, you CAN keep wearing white even after Labor Day!
3. Deeper colors- You can still wear sunny yellows and hot pinks, but add some richer shades like plum, burgundy, and navy. Even if it’s a sundress in one of these hues, your outfit will automatically look like you’re ready for the oncoming season.
4. Maxi dress- These ankle-legth dresses were all the rage for summer and spring, and they don’t need to go anywhere just yet! Instead of opting for sandals with your maxi dress, pair it with suede ankle booties and a denim jacket with sleeves rolled up. This might be my favorite way to style a maxi!
5. Plaid- Nothing says “fall” quite like a good gingham check button-up shirt. Or plaid anything, for that matter. If it’s too hot to wear a blanket scarf (and it’s hot AF, I understand), tie one around your tote bag strap. Cute, and also functional if you’re eating in a restaurant where it happens to be freezing cold. Need to change your baby in that restaurant? You have a blanket for the changing station. Winning on so many levels.

Are you ready for fall, too? Or hanging on to the last days of summer?
Hope you all have a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend!
