DIY: Tree Trunk Table

Hi ladies! I'm back and ready to brag on my handy husband today :). He deserves it, though, because about two months ago (I'm a bad blogger) he made this happen:

When we first started decorating the nursery, I knew we needed a table beside the glider but couldn't seem to find the "perfect one". I wanted something natural and organic to tie in with the rest of the room, and soon spotted these beauties:

Unfortunately they were priced a little higher than I was willing to pay ($200-300), and knew Z could replicate one for a fraction of the cost. He found a freshly cut log near our house and got busy!

sawing off the random limb

cutting it to the right height

sanding away (the most time-consuming part of the project)

taking a break from the most time consuming part of the project....

adding legs for stability

we put about 40 coats of Rust-oleum on this bad boy...this was taken after 8-10 coats

And the finished product all set up in the nursery! I couldn't be happier with how it turned out; thanks for all the hard work, Z!

Turns out I liked the nursery table so much that Zach decided to make another one for our living room...
He stained this one darker and used a glossier finish; it goes great with the other furniture we have in the room.
and just for giggles...
this thing weighs about 200 pounds!

So sorry for the picture-heavy post! I get a little carried away when reliving a project. This was such a green, cost-effective DIY; I'd certainly recommend it to anyone needing a small but sturdy table.

Hope you are all having an amazing week!
