toddler shape craft

Bear has recently become really interested in shapes, so we've been trying to read lots of books and do activities focused around learning and remembering shapes. Because he's 2 1/2 and has a short attention span, I prefer crafts that don't break the bank. I've gone to Michael's and spent $40 on a craft that he literally wouldn't even attempt. So now I'm always on the look-out for things we already have around the house that can be used as fun learning tools. Chances are you already have these things at home, and your toddler will enjoy this as much as Bear did!

You'll need:
-toilet paper rolls (4-8, depending on how many shapes you do)
-tape
-scissors
-paint
-paper plate
-paper

To make the "dippers" as Bear calls them, simply cut each roll once lengthways down the middle (except the circle; it obviously is ready to go). Then just bend the rolls into your preferred shapes, using tape to secure your bends and keep each roll together.
Let your little one go to town dipping and making shapes! I tried to really emphasize what color each shape was, and by the end Bear was naming all of the shapes and colors, even "rectangle"!
