flowy tops

I don't even know where to begin explaining my love for flowy tops (and dresses for that matter). I used to reserve them only for special eating occasions like Thanksgiving dinner and our guilty pleasure, Chinese buffets. Don't get me wrong, those do happen to be ideal flowy shirt situations. But there's no reason a loose-fitting top can't be on regular rotation in your wardrobe year round, regardless of whether you're hitting the beach or buffet.

The secret to pulling off a flowy top is making sure the rest of your outfit is fitted. If I had worn baggy boyfriend jeans with the look above, it would not have made it to the blog. Also a maxi skirt would not go well with this top. Think flowy top, fitted pants or jeans. Shorts can work well too as long as they can be seen (no-one wants to appear pant-less. except my son, he doesn't care).

Another trick is making sure your top has a fun, eye-catching detail. For this particular top, it's the cold shoulder trend that's big right now. A giant piece of fabric with no pattern or interesting detail is not going to be very flattering. I love a little ruffle detail around the hem, and sleeves, as well.

This Charming Charlie top is on sale for under $20 and is so comfortable; I may or may not have worn it two days in a row. It also comes in navy blue, which is really cute with white skinny jeans. Pretty sure I'm ordering that in the next ten minutes. I'm also ordering these turquoise tassel earrings that are on sale for (gasp!) $2.99. I haven't shopped in three or four days so it feels like it's time. I'm sure you fellow shopaholics out there understand.

Happy Hump Day!
