Our Typical Day

For the majority of my life thus far, the word organization was not in my vocabulary. Just ask my college roomate (she was a neat-freak, I was not...I'm sorry for putting you through torture, Cas). I would also eat all of her food, but that's another story. Anyway, it wasn't until the last five or six years that I became cognizant of my unorganized lifestyle and actually decided to make a change. It wasn't really a conscious decision, more just a matter of growing up and getting tired of never knowing where anything is.
I'm also a huge believer in keeping a planner, which I've kept religiously for the past three years. I'm especially obsessed with this marble planner from XO Planners; I'm dying to start using it in a few months. It even has "bucket list" and "goal setting" pages. The top of each calendar page has a girl boss reminder, which is both encouraging and just plain cute. With playdates, events, birthday parties, and lots in between, it's crucial to stay organized and write everything down. I'm an aesthetic person, so it helps me stay motivated to do so if the planner is this detailed and fun.
Here's a look at our typical day!
8:30-9am
This is when Bear normally wakes up, so it's when I wake up as well. I could get a lot done in the morning while Bear's still sleeping but I am so not a morning person and am worthless before 11am. Sometimes noon. Zach gets up early for work, about 5:30, so he's already long gone.
9-10am
I get ready for the day while Bear watches cartoons & plays on the iPad. I'll curl my hair, put on make-up, and force myself to get out of pajamas. Then I'll force Bear to get out of his (hardest task of my day). I'll also check social media and answer a few emails during this time. Oh and I'll drink at least two cups of cappuccino.
10am-12pm
We head out for a playdate or errands. We try and attend 2-3 playdates a week and they're usually in the morning at friends' houses or places like Chuck E Cheese & the children's museum. If there isn't a playdate happening, we'll get our errands done.
12-1pm
Lunch! We eat lunch out every single day. Bad, I know. But also so, so good. Our favorite place is Freddy's but we also frequent Panera Bread, Chick Fil A, and Sonic.
1-2pm
We use this hour for Target runs, doctors appointments, or errands if we've been to a morning playdate.
2-4pm
We head home where Bear will immediately pull out all of his toys and get busy playing. I'll use this time to work on projects, try out a new recipe, and of course relax and play with Bear. He doesn't nap anymore, but he will have "quiet time" on the iPad and I'll watch an episode of Real Housewives of somewhere.
4-6pm
I normally work at my stylist job this time most days. Bear plays while I work on the iPad, and Zach gets home to take over around 5:15pm.
6-7pm
Dinner! I've made it known that I'm no chef, so our meal usually consists of some processed foods and lots of starch. We do often throw in some veggies which Bear surprisingly loves.
7-8:30pm
We play together in Bear's room or the playroom, watch TV (Z & I love a lot of the same shows, thankfully), and go on an outside "adventure". We'll either walk over to the neighborhood park and let Bear play, take him fishing at the pond by our house, or look for lizards in the backyard. We're lucky that Houston has such mild weather and we can get outside year round. Though these summer months are by far the most brutal.
8:30-9pm
Bear's bath time. Rub a dub dub squishy Bear in a tub.
9-9:30pm
Read stories, say prayers, get Bear to sleep. These are his favorite books currently, and I secretly love them, too.
9:30-10pm
I take a long hot bath and do some reading. Zach falls asleep with Bear.
10-11pm
This is when I get a little work done like answering emails, editing pictures, and writing blog posts (like I'm currently doing right now! It's 10:35pm and the boys are fast asleep). I'll also try to catch up on social media and plan my posts for the following day. I do this all in bed, because I'm professional like that.
11pm
My bedtime. I join those sweet boys for a night's rest before getting up and doing it all over again.
Note that this is a "regular" day, as our schedule differs from week to week. Some days we head downtown and spend the whole day at the zoo, other days we stay on the couch and never get outta jammies. The latter tends to be my favorite.
My cousin Braylie and her best friend Averi flew in yesterday; we are loving having them here! Bear especially is crazy about the girls and wants their attention constantly. They're sleeping in this morning and around 10:30am he goes, "Can I please go upstairs and get them? It's wake up time". Apparently he's not used to having teenagers in the house. Ahhh, to be 15 again. I'm definitely living vicariously through these cuties the next couple days.
Hope your week is off to a great start!
xo, Britt
