Happy Fourth of July, y'all! We spent the weekend celebrating in our hometowns of Sweetwater & Roscoe and when we weren't watching/popping fireworks, I was playing in a golf tournament. I hadn't touched a club in a year and played in three consecutive days of tournaments, which was such a blast and I have the sunburns to prove it! The first tournament was at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, the "West Texas Shoot Out" held in honor of my best friend who passed away three years ago. All proceeds go toward scholarships in her name and I got to play with some of my best "Beanies" from college so it was a really special day. The second tournament has become a tradition for my bothers and me- we play in it every 4th of July and this year we tied for first in our flight! That was mostly due to my big brother's skills, but little brother and I had fun occasionally contributing to the cause.
Saturday night, we headed to Roscoe for the annual "Independence Day on the Bricks". You can imagine the sentiment we felt as all of our family gathered together, almost 100 years after my great-grandfather came home from World War I and built those very brick streets in his hometown. We had delicious BBQ at Blackland Smokehouse (and the best homemade cinnamon ice cream + peach cobbler), listened to great bands including Shooter Jennings (also met him eating lunch!), and watched the most amazing firework show that had Bear memorized. It was the most perfect night with family and friends and I wish we could relive it over and over again.
