Good morning and happy hump day, y'all! I'm sitting here writing this from the kitchen counter, with Boone behind me on the floor doing some tummy time. We dropped Bear off at school at 7:40 this morning and came home to a very quiet house- I've been surprised to find how much I can get done before 9am during the school year! Normally I'm lucky if I've just gotten out of bed and downed a cup of coffee by that point, so we have made some serious progress around here that this blog post was actually written and published this early in the day. Virtually high-fiving all you other night owls and non-morning people of the world: it is possible.
Our photographer friend Katie Hill is headed over later this morning to shoot Boone's 6 month photos and I'm all kinds of emotional about it- how will my baby already be 6 months old in 2 days?! It can't be real. Because of this, it has me thinking about everything we've done since February 24th and how quickly the time has passed. I've gotten some requests on Instagram to do a "how to find a routine after baby" post so I have that in the works for y'all! My life is definitely no June Cleaver's- you should see the state of my car right now. It's like some kind of atomic baby bomb went off- diapers everywhere, sunscreen all over the windows/interior (Bear had fun with a spray bottle of Coppertone he found while I was driving last week), and a stroller so big in the trunk I can't fit anything else back there to save my life. But, we have found ourselves in somewhat of a routine amidst the madness so I'll share that soon...and would love to hear from you other mamas how you've done the same!
Now on to important things like my coffee order. This actually makes me laugh because I get more questions about this than anything else- probably because I post so many pictures of my daily cold brew indulgence on the gram. I can't help it, y'all- coffee gives me LIFE. Some have asked how much caffeine I consume a day since Boone is strictly breastfeeding (with a few solids now) and the answer: I have one grande coffee in the morning (some days afternoon instead) and about 8 oz. of Diet Coke with dinner. I try to drink a lot of water in between and had a bad aversion to coffee throughout pregnancy so I didn't have much caffeine while pregnant. There are all kinds of conflicting studies on this and I honestly have no clue what the "right" amount of caffeine intake should be while pregnant or nursing, and I know a lot of women cut it out completely. Unfortunately I need caffeine in my veins to function so.... I just try not to overdo it!
If you're a Starbucks lover like I am and aren't following this Instagram account, you should be. He posts the BEST coffee concoctions which inspired my go-to order the last few months that I'll share below:
Salted Caramel Cold Brew
(only 70 calories!)
How to order:
-grande cold brew
-1 pump sugar free vanilla
-1 pump toffee nut
-1 pump skinny mocha
-light cream
You may feel silly ordering such a complicated drink and I did at first, too. Especially since my other go-to is a grande iced coffee with almond milk and 2 pumps of toffee nut, this seemed like a lot to order but I've had it so many times now and every barista has been extremely nice about it! They've also made it delicious every.single.time. I'm yet to have a Salted Caramel Cold Brew that I don't love, and knowing that it's only 70 calories (while y'all know I'm no dieter) makes me feel good about not drinking something that's so full of sugar. I'd rather save my calories for ice cream and actual food...know what I mean?
No Starbucks near you? When I'm visiting my parents in Sweetwater and the nearest Starbucks is 45 miles away, Sonic has to suffice and I actually like my coffee order from there just about as well. I get a medium iced coffee with *light french vanilla; it's around 100 calories and just the right amount of sweet!
Time to try and get the Boonester a little nap before his big photoshoot- can't wait to share them with you!
xo, Britt
p.s. What's your favorite Starbucks order? Are you excited for Pumpkin Spice Lattes? Less than a week until they're back!! But who's counting..
