boone's baby shark birthday

You all know by now that our Boone Thomas turned one year old on February 24th. Zach was in Bangkok at the time, so we decided to wait and celebrate Boone’s birthday with family and friends at our house on March 10th. It was such a special day, bittersweet and full of love.
Originally I didn’t want to have much of a theme, but when Bear suggested a Baby Shark theme, the rest was history. Boone loves Baby Shark and I knew we could do decor he would love while also keeping a more classic overall nautical theme. I didn’t go overboard (literally!) this time around like I did Bear’s first, and I’m thankful for that because I was able to just sit back and enjoy it all. So many amazing shops helped make this day possible so I’m going to talk about them each below!

For the cake/gift table, we framed pictures of Boone in nautical frames (found at Hobby Lobby). I made a banner with a picture from each month of his first year and could hardly look at it without crying. What a fast year it was! But such a sweet one.

The “Boone Shark” and “doo doo doo doo doo doo” signs were made my The Petite Party Animal, who was such a pleasure to work with. Molly got only a little info from me and ran with it, exceeding all expectations with her creativity. She not only made the cutest banners, but also a custom shadow box that we will keep in Boone’s room and the most adorable “make your own baby shark” crafting projects for the kids. They ended up playing so hard at the party that we sent them home as favors which worked out perfectly. Molly can make any party vision you have come to life with special, one of a kind details and decor.

The invitations and printables were all done by Paper Heart Company. As soon as I saw this invitation, I fell in love and had to have it for Boone’s party. I could’ve printed them at home but chose to have them printed and mailed to us instead and I’m so glad I did- the paper quality was amazing and I loved the details on the envelopes. All of the printables (water bottle labels, food cards, favor tags) were made by Paper Heart Company to be cohesive and match the invitation. I would 100% recommend this shop to anyone planning a party, as they were so easy to work with and do such amazing work. Paper Heart Company is a woman owned business that offers digital files and printing for all events. They are located in Warwick, NY but can drop ship anywhere in the world. PHC can edit existing designs or create custom along with options for foil, letterpress, thermography. They do day of pieces and envelope addressing - pocket folds, wax seals etc. Basically they’re magicians and made Boone’s party so special!

It’s hard to pick my favorite part of the details but these cookies definitely rank high up there. It was surprisingly hard to find Baby Shark sugar cookies but I found the most adorable ones by April’s Sugaree Cookies on Etsy and our guests loved them just as much as I did. April offers so many unique designs and looks aside, her cookies are DELICIOUS. We had some left over and I finished the last one off last night- 2 weeks later and it was still so soft and fresh.

The “fin-tastic” cups were made by Rubi & Lib, another hit at the party. They were perfect for holding the cookies and a great take-home favor for our guests. I could also envision the cups being ideal for a bachelorette weekend, baby shower, etc. Just so sweet and completely customizable. Also really great quality for the price!

The giant cupcake (or “smash cake”) and other cupcakes were all from Crave Cupcakes, our very favorite local bakery. True story, the very first time I ever came to Houston to visit Zach, he took me to Crave Cupcakes. and it was love at first bite. I was so excited when I found out The Woodlands has a Crave (we used to live off of Post Oak and frequent that location) and my very favorite coffee in the world is a Cupcake Mocha Latte from Crave. Each latte has an entire scoop of cupcake frosting in it…..basically heaven in a cup.
I somehow took this conversation over to coffee, big surprise, but back to the cupcakes. They were so yummy- we got a variety of flavors and everyone was happy.

The acrylic “Boone” shark cake topper was made my Studio Noel, who also made Boone’s monthly milestones that you saw on the blog the past year. My reflection doesn’t show it well in the pictures but the topper was actually a silver acrylic, which was so cute in person. Brittni is unbelievably talented and I still can’t get over how perfect Boone’s cake toppers (she sent an extra!) were. She can make pretty much any laser cut sign you’re needing and will work with you on a design that you love. I wish I’d known about Studio Noel when we got married!

I can’t thank all of these shops enough for making Boone’s birthday such a sweet, special day for our boy.
Even more than the material things, were the people present who made the day memorable. We had family drive in from all over the state, and friends make 2 hour treks to be there for Boone. I can’t put into words how much this meant to our family, even if Boone was sleepy and a little grumpy at the time :). We truly have the best friends and family and we love you all.

If you have any baby shark lovers in your family, I hope this post will provide a little inspiration for their next party! It really was so much fun to plan and we loved celebrating our ONE year old baby shark.
xo, Britt
