Here's the thing about spring (see what I did there?!)- it's the perfect time to clean out your closet and start fresh with new and improved pieces. Bright whites and pastels are in full swing for Easter, and I'm already planning my statement hat (that's sure to be ostentatious) for the Kentucky Derby. I won't be going to the actual Derby, of course, but you guys know I wouldn't miss any excuse to dress up in "costume". This year, accessories take center stage in the outfit department and I couldn't be more happy about it. Possibly most exciting is the functionality of all of it- sensible handbags, lightweight scarves, and waist-slimming belts? Sign me up.
5 Accessory Trends for Spring
1. Statement earrings- It's no secret that I love a good statement earring. I could (and pretty much do) wear them every day. This spring, statement necklaces take a back seat to the wow-factor of all earrings. Feeling bold? Try a look that was all over the spring runways at fashion week- mismatched earrings. Sure to get lots of attention!
2. A bold scarf- 2017 has been deemed "the year of the scarf" which is thrilling news for those of us who love this practical accessory. Think lightweight, a fun print, and all the tassel and pom pom details. Embrace your inner Parisian girl and pair a colorful scarf with a black and white striped top.
3. Crossbody bag- The most popular bag of the moment is the cross body, coming in all shapes, colors, and sizes. I own more than I can count and wear them all pretty regularly- I like to invest in a classic nude for everyday wear and a few bright colored bags for special occasions or outings with the girls.
4. Colorful sunnies- There isn't a particular shape of sunglasses that's ruling overall currently, but for the most part it's the bigger the better. Whatever the shape, make sure your sunnies boast bright, colorful lenses that reflect your favorite hue. I just got in some pink and blue mirrored sunglasses that I can't wait to wear in Puerto Vallarta!
5. Belts- This may come as a shock to some of you, but belts were actually "out" for a few years there (at least for us ladies). Thankfully, they're back and with a vengeance, taking over the fashion world paired with everything from evening gowns to everyday denim. Designer belts such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton are especially big right now so if you're going to splurge on one new accessory, this would be a great one!
