It should come as no surprise to you all that I love any and all holidays, including ones that technically belong to another country. Living in Texas, Cinco de Mayo has always been celebrated in school, at work, and in our home. What's not to love about queso, margaritas, and pinatas?! Growing up, I wrongfully always assumed that May 5th was a commemoration of Mexico gaining their independence when in fact, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. We usually have a big party and celebrate with friends and lots of yummy food but this year, we are having a low key day with friends and lunch at Fuzzy's Tacos. Because....tacos.

We still plan on being dressed up for the occasion for several reasons- the first being that I picked up the cutest poncho ever in Puerto Vallarta for Bear and I'm dying for him to wear it with his over-sized sombrero and fake handlebar mustache a la Jack Black in Nacho Libre. The past several years we've dressed Bear up in a big box piñata and it was pretty much the funniest thing ever. Sadly he's outgrown the piñata but that doesn't mean we won't still have one full of candy (not quite as sweet as Bear, but close)! This year, Bear picked out a Minions piñata from Target- he's been begging for it for months and we finally had the proper occasion so I caved. #momlife

As far as my attire, it was an easy choice to go with this ruffle embroidered top (it's currently on sale, too!). The styles right now are all catering to fiesta-esque vibes, with lots of bright colors, tassels, pom poms, and embroidery. Perfect for Cinco de Mayo! Espadrilles are also a huge trend for spring and summer, and I love them because they're super comfy and ideal for chasing around a four year old boy all day. I'm linking some other Cinco de Mayo outfit inspiration below, a lot of the pieces being on major sale and can be worn all summer long!
Adios amigos!
